LOVE FOR TODAY...HOPE FOR TOMORROW
WHO WE ARE
The Dream Scholarship Program is an After School program within Opendoor Education. Each year, we work with the school social workers of Pitt County to select ten underprivileged first-grade students to be a part of the Opendoor After School Program and Opendoor Summer Camp. Each student that is selected will stay in the program until they are in 6th grade as long as they continue to meet the requirements. It is because of the generosity of the Opendoor Church family that the Dream Scholarship Program exists and continues to touch the lives of families in our community.
WHAT WE DO
Our role is to assist families and teachers by narrowing the gap between home and school. During After School hours, each Dream Scholarship student will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one time with a Dream Scholarship leader where they will receive assistance with their homework or any other specific educational needs. Outside of the one-on-one time for school work, Dream Scholarship students will be able to spend quality time with the rest of the After School students as they build relationships, strengthen friendships, and form community.
Each day, we are able to offer our After School students various activities that encourage wellness in all aspects of their life, including physical activity, creativity, and spiritual growth.
During our 10 week Summer Camp program, which we offer 5 days a week during summer, Dream Scholarship students have the opportunity to participate in daily activities, weekly field trips, and tutoring sessions.
THE IMPACT
We are passionate about stewarding what God has given our program and helping those who do not have access to certain resources because of their circumstances. Our heart is to invest into these students and encourage them as they discover their identity as a child of God.
"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."
HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
When you donate to The Dream Scholarship Program, you are giving students the opportunity to be a part of something bigger. Your donation provides a way for these students to attend Opendoor After School and Opendoor Summer Camp. To better assist working parents, childcare is available on teacher workdays, extended holiday breaks, or anytime school is not in session. We are here to support the Dream Scholarship Families, and your generous donations make that possible.
The complete cost to scholarship a student for one full year of After School and Summer Camp is $7,000, and every dollar counts. Click "Donate" below to invest in a child's life today.
Join our team
Our mentors volunteer to serve with the Dream Scholarship Program and are a vital part of what we do. They remain present and engaged with our students by building strong relationships, speaking positivity into their lives, and encouraging them with love and grace. It is our goal to reflect Jesus in all that we do.
We offer academic support to our Dream Scholarship Students in math, reading, and any other educational needs they have. The material ranges from 1st grade to 5th grade. Tutoring sessions in the Dream Scholarship Program operate from 3:00-5:00pm Monday through Friday.
Information for teachers in pitt county
We are here to assist the teachers of Pitt county by helping students with any academic needs that they have while also holding students accountable for their actions at school.
We act as a liaison between school and parent by reminding parents of what you, as the teacher, need from them. We assist parents by helping them advocate for their child as well as help teach them how to communicate with a classroom teacher in a healthy way.
We also help communicate educational terminology that a parent may be unfamiliar with like MTSS Meetings, IEP Meetings, Retention Referrals, Parent | Teacher Conferences, Etc.
We will step in when we are needed. We know that there are times when a parent cannot come to a meeting due to work, but there is vital information that they need to know for their child. Because of this, one of our team members will step in as a representative of the family so that the information can be relayed to them. We will also step in as a buffer during difficult situations between parents and teachers.
